Baghdad: Head of the State of Law Coalition Nouri Al-Maliki announced on Tuesday that the Coordination Framework has formed a committee to collaborate with the government in developing mechanisms to ensure that all weapons are under state control. He emphasized that the state’s constitutional institutions should be the primary authority in managing security and military affairs.
According to Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the media office of the State of Law Coalition leader revealed that Al-Maliki met with US Charg© d’Affaires to Iraq, Joshua Harris, at his office on the same day. The meeting focused on the future of Iraq-US relations and ways to enhance them across various sectors, aligning with the Strategic Framework Agreement while protecting shared interests and Iraq’s sovereignty.
The discussions also included the government’s efforts to consolidate weapons under state control. Al-Maliki highlighted the Coordination Framework’s initiative to establish a committee, which will soon begin its work in collaboration with the government to identify suitable mechanisms for this process. He underscored the need for addressing the matter through dialogue and mutual understanding to ensure a cohesive national stance and preserve Iraq’s security and stability. He reiterated that constitutional institutions should be the leading authority in managing security and military matters.
The US charg© d’affaires commended Al-Maliki’s political role and his efforts in promoting stability and enhancing political cooperation. He appreciated Al-Maliki’s support for the government’s initiatives to tackle national issues and reinforce state institutions.
