Baghdad: Candidate Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani has been elected as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives, securing the position in the second round of voting held this evening, Thursday. Al-Mashhadani garnered a majority with 182 votes, outpacing his competitors, Salem Al-Issawi, who received 42 votes, and Amer Abdul-Jabbar, who obtained 8 votes. Additionally, there were 39 invalid papers recorded during the election process.
