Baghdad: Deputy Commander of the Joint Operations Command and Chairman of the Higher Security Committee for Mass Pilgrimages, Lt. Gen. Staff Dr. Qais Al-Mohammadawi, has issued directives for security forces to focus on intelligence efforts rather than militarization in securing the upcoming Ashura and Arbaeen pilgrimages.

According to Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Joint Operations Command detailed that Lt. Gen. Staff Qais Al-Mohammadawi chaired a conference at the Joint Operations Command headquarters. The meeting focused on enhancing intelligence efforts and field operations during the initial days of Muharram and the Arbaeen pilgrimage of Imam Hussein(PBUH). The conference included participation from all intelligence bodies within the security services, the Joint Operations Command’s staff authority, representatives of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), and several officers.

The statement highlighted Al-Mohammadawi’s emphasis on intensifying intelligence efforts while avoiding the militarization of cities, roads, and pilgrims’ routes. The focus remains on securing pilgrims’ corridors and preventing any security breaches. Additionally, he stressed the importance of stringent security screenings at locations expected to have large gatherings, such as vehicle parking areas and Husseini mourning processions.

Lt. Gen. Staff Al-Mohammadawi received a comprehensive briefing on the progress of the intelligence plan from relevant agencies, security services, and departments. He directed that further efforts be made to provide optimal arrangements for the comfort of pilgrims from both inside and outside the country during these significant occasions. He commended the substantial efforts of all security agencies involved in the mission.
