New York:Iraqi newspapers have emphasized Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi’s significant meeting with US President Donald Trump and his diplomatic engagements with Arab and foreign officials during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the semi-official Al-Sabah newspaper reported that discussions between Al-Zaidi and Trump focused on coordinating positions regarding regional security and the sensitive aspects of Iraq-US relations. A key issue was the plan to bring all armed factions under state control, for which Al-Zaidi sought additional time and provided guarantees of Iraq’s commitment to this strategy.

Al-Sabah noted that Al-Zaidi’s efforts to align domestic political forces with this policy were progressing well, highlighting the importance of US cooperation in ensuring the plan’s success. The newspaper stressed that a strong and stable Iraq is essential for regional stability, as echoed by US officials.

Meanwhile, Al-Zaman reported on Al-Zaidi’s
meetings with regional leaders, including discussions with the Syrian President on bilateral relations and regional cooperation, and talks with Jordan’s King Abdullah II on supporting peaceful initiatives. The prime minister also explored investment opportunities with the Kuwaiti Crown Prince and discussed energy and border issues.

Additionally, Al-Zaidi participated in a multilateral meeting convened by President Trump, attended by representatives from several Middle Eastern countries, reinforcing Iraq’s role in regional diplomacy.

In Doha, the head of Iraq’s Federal Integrity Commission, Mohammed Ali Al-Lami, addressed the sixth session of the Conference of States Parties to the Arab Convention against Corruption. He emphasized the need for international collaboration to combat corruption, aligning with Iraq’s ongoing efforts to implement anti-corruption strategies and enhance transparency through 2030.
