Baghdad: The Security Media Cell announced that Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has directed the opening of an advanced headquarters through the Crisis and Disaster Management Center between the governorates of Kirkuk and Salah al-Din.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commander-in-Chief is closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the Joint Operations Command and relevant authorities. This initiative comes in response to the recent heavy rains and floods that have severely impacted several regions. The floods have submerged areas, caused significant damage, and left numerous citizens trapped, particularly in the governorates of Kirkuk, Salah al-Din, Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and other regions.
Al-Sudani's directive involves the establishment of this advanced headquarters under the leadership of representatives from various authorities, including military engineering, Popular Mobilization Forces engineering, and the Roads and Bridges Department. This effort is in coordination with local governments and security leaders in the affected areas to ensure a comprehensive response.
In addition, Al-Sudani has ordered the provision of aircraft from the Army Aviation Command to facilitate evacuation operations once weather conditions allow. This is to be done alongside efforts to reopen roads, repair damaged bridges, and implement necessary measures to improve mobility for citizens in these affected areas.
