Basra: The head of the Border Ports Authority, Lieutenant General Omar Adnan Al-Waeli, emphasized that border crossings serve as the primary defense line in safeguarding the nation’s security and economic interests.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Waeli made this assertion during a field visit to the Shalamcheh border crossing in Basra Governorate. The visit aimed to evaluate the ongoing operations and procedures at the crossing amidst the current security climate in the region.
During his inspection tour, Al-Waeli assessed the operational mechanisms and procedures put in place to manage the movement of passengers and goods. He also monitored the level of coordination among various departments working at the crossing to ensure operations run smoothly and in alignment with existing regulations and guidelines.
Additionally, Al-Waeli engaged with representatives from the security and service departments at the crossing to discuss the prevailing security situation and necessary improvements. The discussions focused on enhancing monitoring and inspection protocols to secure the crossing and ensure the safety of transit traffic.
Al-Waeli underscored the importance of increasing preparedness and vigilance across all operating entities at the border crossing.
