Al-Waili Inspects Mandali and Al-Mundhiriyah Border Crossings, Stresses Implementation of PM’s Directives to Strengthen Oversight

Baghdad: Head of the Border Ports Commission, Lt. Gen. Omar Adnan Al-Waili, conducted an inspection visit to the Mandali and Al-Mundhiriyah border crossings in Diyala Province, emphasizing the need for complete adherence to governmental directives aimed at enhancing oversight and preventing smuggling activities.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Waili’s visit was accompanied by the Director of Border Security at the National Security Service and the Director of Security in Diyala. The primary objective was to evaluate the current level of performance and compliance with government mandates, particularly those issued by Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi. These directives require the presence of officers from the National Intelligence Service and the National Security Service within customs inspection areas and trade exchange yards at the border crossings, with the goal of bolstering security and intelligence activities to better control the movement of goods and travelers.

During the visit, Al-Waili conducted a thorough inspection of the facilities at both border crossings, assessing the operational mechanisms and existing procedures. He stressed the importance of strict adherence to government directives and the collaboration of all security and regulatory bodies to maintain smooth operations, and to prevent smuggling and manipulation.

The statement from the commission highlighted that Al-Waili led an extensive meeting with directors and department representatives working at the two border crossings. The discussions were centered on enhancing institutional performance, streamlining procedures, boosting non-oil revenues, tackling operational challenges, and preparing adequately to accommodate pilgrims attending the Arbaeen commemoration of Imam Hussein.

Furthermore, Al-Waili underscored the necessity of adhering to electronic systems, existing regulations, and fostering coordination among all involved entities. He affirmed the Border Ports Commission’s dedication to the government’s agenda, which focuses on strengthening economic security, improving operational efficiency, and maintaining high standards of oversight and transparency at all border ports to protect public funds and benefit the public interest.
