Amman: An Iraqi newspaper has reported that Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi is set to issue official requests to Jordan for the extradition of businessmen and former officials accused of corruption.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the newspaper Khaberni cited an Iraqi political source, stating that the extradition requests will involve businessmen linked to the car trade, a potato chip factory, and a private hospital. The source, identified by the newspaper as being close to al-Zaidi’s political circle, indicated that the suspects are alleged to owe tens of millions of dollars and unspecified amounts of gold. Baghdad is expected to officially request the seizure of their assets as part of this initiative.
The Prime Minister has previously declared that the campaign against corruption is in its “first phase,” underscoring ongoing efforts to recover public funds and his commitment to safeguarding citizens’ interests.
