Kirkuk: In a well-executed security operation, the Alton Kupri anti-crime unit dismantled a motorcycle theft gang in Kirkuk. The anti-crime unit in the Altun Kupri district successfully dismantled a gang specializing in motorcycle theft, which had carried out more than ten thefts using an innovative method.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Police Chief Major General Fatah al-Khafaji stated that the operation was conducted under the direct supervision of the head of the anti-crime department. A well-planned ambush was set up, leading to the arrest of the gang members within the city center.

He added that the gang members used a taxi to travel from Kirkuk city center to the Altun Kupri district, where they would target and steal motorcycles before fleeing and disappearing into the city’s neighborhoods. The investigation team relied on meticulous and intensive review of surveillance camera footage, which documented their movements and the recurring nature of the thefts.

He concluded by saying that after being confronted with the irrefutable evidence, the suspects confessed to carrying out more than ten motorcycle thefts in various areas of the Altun Kupri district. Their confessions were recorded both initially and judicially, and the investigating judge ordered their detention in accordance with Article (446) of the Iraqi Penal Code so that they may receive their just punishment.
