Washington:The US Department of Defense is contemplating relocating its military bases to areas further beyond Iran’s reach. This potential move follows significant damages inflicted by Iranian strikes on US military facilities.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Wall Street Journal reported that 274 buildings across 24 US military facilities sustained damage from Iranian strikes during the first six months of the ongoing conflict. The financial implications of the war with Iran have been substantial, with costs estimated at approximately $47.1 billion, excluding around $5 billion in damages to US military bases.
The report highlighted that a concerning shift in Iranian tactics was observed in strikes that took place last July, indicating an improvement in Tehran’s ability to execute more precise attacks. One of the Iranian attacks resulted in the deaths of three American soldiers, marking it as one of the deadliest nights for US forces during the conflict.
In Jordan, Iranian missiles targeted the Al-Salt airbase last July, causing damage to approximately 19 buildings used to house soldiers. This incident underscores the serious repercussions of attacks on US military facilities in the region. The Pentagon is considering not only relocating military bases to more secure areas but also withdrawing from its facilities in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
