Oil expert Hamza al-Jawahiri said that the safe investment environment is attracting foreign investor to Iraq and not conferences, pointing out that the donor conference held in Kuwait did not result in investing in oil and gas due to lack of the safe investment environment, and the spread of corruption and corrupt.
Al-Jawahiri said in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) that the spread of corruption in Iraq is one of the most important obstacles for the investor, and the government must strike hard at the hands of the corrupt, pointing out that many of the countries and major and small companies, came for the purpose of extrapolating the situation about investment in Iraq, and therefore, some may be good convictions for investment and some may be the opposite, and relative success to the Conference is linked to the basis of the results, which are not clear yet.
Al-Jawahiri predicted that many investors will come to work in the safe areas, provided that the investment environment is secure and that all bureaucratic obstacles and interventions that hinder projects, especially by the unregulated communities scattered throughout Iraq, are removed, adding that some investors may go to Iraq in the near future, but so far we have not seen anything of it. “
The donor conference for the reconstruction of Iraq was held in Kuwait on February 12, with the aim of mobilizing support for the reconstruction of the liberated cities from Daesh.
Donor pledges at the conference reached about $ 30 billion, while Iraq hoped to get pledges of $ 88 billion.
