Baghdad to Host Second Meeting of Turkish-Iraqi Planning Group


Baghdad: The Iraqi capital, Baghdad, is set to host the second preparatory meeting of the Turkish-Iraqi Joint Planning Group tomorrow, Thursday.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Turkish diplomatic sources reported on Wednesday that Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yilmaz will lead the Turkish delegation, while Mohammed Hussein Bahr al-Ulum will represent the Iraqi side. The meeting aims to reinforce the mutual commitment to enhancing bilateral relations through a positive agenda and within an institutional framework.

The discussions will focus on the approval and implementation of agreements reached during Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s recent visit to Iraq. Additionally, the progress of joint mechanisms that have been established, as well as those in the planning stages, will be evaluated.

The Turkish delegation is expected to stress the significance Ankara places on maintaining stability and security in Iraq. They will also support the efforts of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s gov
ernment to counter any potential Israeli aggression in the region and ensure that developments in Syria do not adversely affect Iraq.

During the visit, Deputy Foreign Minister Yilmaz is anticipated to engage in high-level discussions in both Baghdad and Erbil.
