Ankara:Basra Provincial Council member Jaafar Sinakh al-Hajjaj passed away on Saturday while attending a conference in the Turkish capital.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Hajjaj died during his participation in a conference for civil society organizations. It was reported that he had a heart condition, and travel may have worsened his health.

Al-Hajjaj was the head of the Youth, Sports, and Civil Society Organizations Committee in the Basra Provincial Council. Official details regarding the cause of death are still awaited as authorities have not released a statement yet.
