Baghdad: The Board of Directors of the General Company for Carbon Economics, during its eleventh meeting, approved a package of new programs and projects aimed at strengthening the green economy, expanding the company's activities in the areas of emissions reduction, developing green economy projects, and building partnerships with the public and private sectors. This supports Iraq's efforts to achieve sustainable development and fulfill its climate commitments.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the company's Director General, Haider Qasim Al-Daraji, chaired the first meeting of the Board of Directors since assuming his duties. The meeting was attended by board members and hosted Nazir Aboud Faza, advisor to the Ministry of Environment, who emphasized the importance of supporting the company's direction in implementing the Ministry's priorities related to the transition to a green economy.
The meeting included discussions on the topics on the agenda, a review of the company's plans, and an examination of several initiatives and strategic projects aimed at strengthening the company's role as the national arm responsible for developing carbon economies and carbon markets in Iraq.
The Director General affirmed that the next phase will witness the launch of qualitative initiatives to promote green investment, attract climate finance, develop emissions reduction projects, and harvest carbon credits, thereby contributing to supporting the national economy and keeping pace with global trends towards low-carbon development.
