Baghdad: The Media and Communications Commission has officially signed a license for Starlink to operate within Iraq. The head of the Executive Authority of the Media and Communications Commission, Baligh Abu Kalal, executed the formal agreement, marking a significant step forward for Iraq's telecommunications landscape.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the signing ceremony took place at the American Chamber of Commerce in the United States and was attended by Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi. The event underscored the collaborative efforts between Iraq and Starlink, as the Media and Communications Commission aims to regulate satellite internet services within the country's legal and regulatory frameworks. This move is intended to safeguard Iraq's digital sovereignty while aligning with global advancements.
The commission's statement highlighted that Starlink's entry into the Iraqi market is expected to broaden internet service options, particularly in regions requiring sophisticated technological solutions. Furthermore, this development is anticipated to enhance the investment climate and support ongoing digital transformation initiatives across Iraq.
