Baghdad: The head of the Executive Authority of the Communications and Media Commission (CMC), Baligh Abu Kalal, announced on Thursday that Apple has been approved as a trusted digital platform to operate in Iraq. He explained that the approval came after the company fulfilled all the requirements and procedures stipulated under the regulatory framework governing digital platforms and services.
According to Iraqi News Agency, Abu Kalal stated that the approval includes classifying Apple as a trusted provider of digital services, including the App Store, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple Arcade, and Apple Ads. This follows Apple's fulfillment of the technical and legal requirements approved by the Communications and Media Commission, allowing it to offer these services within a formal regulatory framework that complies with the applicable laws and regulations in Iraq.
The approval of global digital platforms is part of a broader strategy aimed at aligning the services of international companies with Iraqi legislation, ensuring the protection of users' rights, supporting the digital economy, and enhancing the investment environment in the information technology sector.
The Commission is working with major international companies and digital platforms to complete licensing and approval procedures, which will contribute to expanding digital services, regulating electronic payment processes, and strengthening Iraq's position in the global digital economy.
Abu Kalal emphasized that the approval reflects Iraq's commitment to building a digital environment based on the rule of law, good governance, and institutional integration, in a manner that serves the interests of citizens and supports the country's digital transformation.
