Death Toll from Venezuelan Earthquakes Rises to 4,930

Caracas: The death toll from the two consecutive earthquakes that struck Venezuela last month has risen to 4,930, as announced today by Jorge Rodriguez, President of the National Assembly of Venezuela. These devastating earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, hit the country 39 seconds apart, particularly affecting the northern regions.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the number of injured remains unchanged at 16,740, while 17,907 people have been rendered homeless due to the catastrophe. The previous count had reported 4,490 fatalities. The earthquakes left a trail of destruction, with Caracas authorities noting that thousands were listed as missing after several high-rise apartment buildings were reduced to rubble in mere seconds.
