Defense and Justice Ministers Address Re-Registration of Defense Ministry Properties

Baghdad: Ministers of Defense Thabet Mohammed Saeed Al-Abbasi and Justice Khaled Shawani engaged in discussions regarding the process for re-registering properties belonging to the Ministry of Defense. This meeting comes in light of a recent ruling by the Federal Court, which has significant implications for the ownership and management of these properties.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Federal Court Decision No. (241) of 2024 declared the term “dissolved entities” unconstitutional concerning the Ministry of Defense. This decision further deemed the transfer of the Ministry’s properties to the Ministry of Finance unconstitutional. In response, the Minister of Justice, Khaled Shawani, announced that steps to revert ownership back to the Ministry of Defense would commence shortly.

Additionally, Minister of Defense Thabet Mohammed Saeed Al-Abbasi urged the Real Estate Registration Department to collaborate with the New Cities Authority. This cooperation aims to accelerate the issuance of bonds, particularly concerning the development of the city of Al-Fursan.

The meeting saw participation from key figures, including the Senior Undersecretary at the Ministry of Justice, Ziad Al-Tamimi, the Director General of Real Estate Registration, Ibtisam Rahim, the Head of the Legal Department at the Ministry of Defense, Legal Lieutenant General Khaled Jabbar Ismail, and the Director of Military Housing, Major General Mazen Hamid Shalal.
