Kirkuk: The Dutch Minister of Defense, Robin Brickellmanns, made an unexpected arrival at the Kirkuk Governorate building, where he was welcomed by Kirkuk Governor Rebwar Taha. The reception included the presence of the Deputy Governor for Technical Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Tamim, as well as the Dutch Ambassador to Iraq, Janet Alberda.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, following the initial meeting, Defense Minister Brickellmanns proceeded to the Hawija district, located to the west of Kirkuk. His visit aimed to engage with the local administration and inspect a site that was bombed by Dutch aircraft on June 2, 2015. The target of the bombing was an explosives factory under the control of ISIS at the time. The incident resulted in numerous casualties, and the Dutch government later acknowledged that civilians were unintentionally targeted, describing the event as an “accident.”
