Embezzlement and Tampering Uncovered in Salah al-Din Traffic Directorate

Baghdad:Salah al-Din: The Integrity Commission has uncovered significant embezzlement and tampering with over 56,000 traffic fine receipts in the Salah al-Din region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Federal Commission of Integrity revealed that a police colonel, currently in custody pending investigation, was involved in tampering with 34,164 fine receipts at the Vehicle Registration and Driver’s License Complex within the Salah al-Din Traffic Directorate. This misconduct led to the embezzlement of 1,853,200,000 dinars.

The Commission, acting on an order from the Salah al-Din Court of Investigation, seized the original copies of the tampered receipts. The case is being investigated under Article 315 of the Penal Code. In a separate operation, another officer, also a colonel, was found to have tampered with additional receipts, resulting in the embezzlement of 339,135,000 dinars. The team secured 22,000 receipts, including specific forms subjected to tampering.

The investigation has expanded to include three other officers—a brigadier general and two colonels—who failed to audit fine-related records accurately, allowing the financial misconduct to go unnoticed. The investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the case and establish accountability.

Official seizure records have been prepared for the documentation and receipts recovered. These actions were taken in line with the decisions by the Salah al-Din Investigative Court, with materials presented to the investigating judge for further legal proceedings.
