Baghdad: Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein affirmed on Thursday Iraq's position in support of the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people's right to self-determination. He also indicated that regional countries are seeking a ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Iraqi News Agency, in a statement given on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting on Jerusalem, held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, the Foreign Minister said, "Iraq's paper at the ministerial meeting discussed the geographical and demographic changes taking place in Jerusalem."

He added, "We addressed the Palestinian issue in general, and the position of the Iraqi government and state in supporting the Palestinian cause, and our complete belief in the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, in accordance with the choices made by the Palestinian people themselves and their leadership."

He continued, "We also discussed our ongoing solidarity with the Palestinian people and the international organizations that serve the Palestinian cause, especially Palestinian refugees, and our support for UNRWA, the UN agency dedicated to Palestinian refugees."

The Foreign Minister explained, "I held numerous meetings on the sidelines of the conference with the foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Tunisia, as well as some private meetings with ministers from other Islamic countries."

He continued, "Part of the meetings addressed the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and the military operations in the region," emphasizing that "everyone acknowledges the seriousness of the challenges facing the region." He affirmed that "all countries in the region are striving for a ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz."
