New York:Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein of Iraq and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly at the UN headquarters.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting focused on bilateral relations and regional developments, stressing the need for ongoing consultation and coordination between the two nations. They discussed supporting diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and enhancing security and stability in the region.

Fuad Hussein highlighted the critical role of sustained diplomatic efforts and dialogue among the concerned parties to contain tensions, prevent their spread, and maintain regional security.

Abbas Araghchi shared details about the indirect contacts and discussions taking place between Iran and the United States, facilitated by an intermediary nation during the UN General Assembly. These discussions aim to de-escalate tensions and find ways to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for maritime traffic. The
meeting also reviewed the outcomes of a gathering involving the Gulf Cooperation Council states and several other countries, which was attended by U.S. President Donald Trump, and the potential role of regional and international contacts in promoting de-escalation and dialogue.

Both foreign ministers concluded their meeting by underlining the importance of continued consultation and coordination to manage regional developments, support diplomatic efforts to halt escalation, and foster dialogue and peaceful solutions, contributing to regional security and stability.
