Gaza: The Peace Council has awarded its first construction contract in the Gaza Strip to establish a military base for Moroccan forces, marking the inception of broader post-war security initiatives in the region. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the contract, which is yet to be finalized, was awarded to American company Arkel International. The company has a history of carrying out projects for the US government in Iraq.

This development follows the recent announcement by US President Donald Trump regarding an agreement to disarm Hamas as part of the American peace plan. The new military base will be strategically situated in an area controlled by the Israeli army, approximately 1.6 kilometers from the Israeli border. The initial phase of the construction covers an area of 100 by 120 meters and includes essential facilities such as tents, beds, and toilets.

The base is intended to serve as a launching point for more extensive operations, initially envisioned as a site for 5,000 soldiers but now significantly scaled back. The construction contract is part of a broader framework established by a previous agreement signed by Morocco in July. Under this agreement, Morocco committed to joining the "International Stabilization Force" in Gaza and pledged to send senior officers from the Royal Armed Forces, members of the Royal Gendarmerie, and the General Directorate of National Security. Additionally, Morocco plans to establish a military field hospital in the region.

Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita had earlier confirmed Morocco's readiness to deploy its forces to Gaza, emphasizing the Kingdom's commitment to supporting peace and stability in the region.
