Baghdad: The Council of Representatives announced that the meetings of the Arab Parliament and its standing committees will be held in Baghdad from April 19-21. These meetings are under the patronage of Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, and will be attended by 60 representatives of Arab parliaments.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Parliament will commence its work with a joint meeting between Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani and Mohammed Ahmed Al-Yamahi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament. This meeting will mark the start of the Parliament's sessions, followed by a session of the Palestine Committee. The meetings of the four standing committees of the Arab Parliament will then proceed, culminating in the fourth session of the fourth legislative term on April 21.
The agenda includes a training workshop for members, scheduled for April 20, in Al-Shabibi Hall of the Council of Representatives, titled "Artificial Intelligence Tools in Parliamentary Work." Additionally, there will be a meeting of the Arab Parliament's Bureau, attended by the Speaker of Parliament, his deputies, and the heads of the standing committees, taking place in the meeting hall of the Office of the Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives.
The Arab Parliament, established by a decision of the League of Arab States at the summit level on March 23, 2005, in Algiers, serves as the legislative arm of the League. Initially set as a transitional parliament for five years, its mandate was extended for an additional two years. As a platform for Shura, democracy, freedom, and human rights, it is instrumental in dialogue and decision-making, contributing to the Arab action system and formulating common Arab policy. It emphasizes expanding political participation to foster democratic development in Arab countries and to strengthen ties among Arab peoples.
Comprising 88 members, with four representatives from each of the 22 member states of the League of Arab States, the Arab Parliament has four standing committees: the Foreign, Political, and National Security Affairs Committee; the Economic and Financial Affairs Committee; the Legislative, Legal, and Human Rights Affairs Committee; and the Social, Educational, Cultural, Women, and Youth Affairs Committee. Each committee includes 22 members. The legislative term consists of four sessions, beginning in October and concluding in June each year, with general sessions held at the League of Arab States headquarters in Cairo.
