IAEA Deputy Director Ends Tehran Visit After Key Discussions with Iranian Officials

Tehran: The International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) Deputy Director General, Massimo Aparo, concluded his visit to Tehran on Tuesday following discussions with Iranian officials aimed at enhancing cooperation between the IAEA and Iran amidst prevailing developments.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Aparo engaged with Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, along with other officials, including the Director General for Peace and International Security at the ministry and an adviser to the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran. The talks focused on establishing mechanisms for ongoing interaction between the IAEA and Iran. Both parties expressed their commitment to continue consultations based on the outcomes of these meetings.

Gharibabadi conveyed Iran's 'strong criticism and protest' regarding the perceived shortcomings of the IAEA in fulfilling its duties during what Iran described as an 'aggressive attack' by Israel and the United States. He emphasized that the IAEA team was made aware of Tehran's demands to amend what Iran considers 'wrong procedures' in the agency's handling of Iran's nuclear dossier.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi clarified that Aparo's visit did not encompass plans to inspect nuclear sites, noting that such inspections would be considered later once a comprehensive framework for cooperation is established.
