Integrity Commission Achieves Major Success in Recovering Fugitives and Funds

Baghdad: The Director General of the Recovery Department at the Federal Integrity Commission, Abbas Mutab, has announced a significant achievement in the commission's efforts to recover individuals accused of crimes who had fled Iraq, as well as the recovery of substantial funds from abroad. Mutab revealed that approximately half of the accused individuals have been successfully brought back compared to previous efforts.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Mutab highlighted the effective collaboration with Interpol and various law enforcement agencies, which has been instrumental in these recoveries. However, he pointed out challenges in securing cooperation from certain countries regarding extradition, due to differences in legal frameworks between Iraq and these nations. He elaborated that the complexities arise when Iraq's legal measures cannot be directly applied elsewhere, and when funds become integrated into foreign economies, posing additional hurdles.

Mutab further mentioned that the upcoming recovery efforts for this year promise significant developments. These include the retrieval of large sums of money and the return of several accused individuals who have been at large for years. He attributed these advancements to the support of the head of the Integrity Commission and the head of the Supreme Judicial Council, emphasizing that these ongoing efforts will continue to address the challenges faced by the commission.
