Integrity Commission Arrests Seven for Bribery and Fraud in Baghdad Departments

Baghdad:Seven suspects have been arrested by the Federal Commission of Integrity during three operations targeting bribery and fraud in various departments within Baghdad Governorate.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Commission’s Investigation and Apprehension Department in the Baghdad Investigation Directorate successfully executed a planned ambush, arresting three employees from the South Rusafa Electricity Directorate and a middleman. They were caught accepting a bribe to destroy a legal case against a person who had illegally accessed the electrical power transmission network.

In another operation, two employees from the Baghdad/Rusafa Electricity Distribution Company were arrested for taking a bribe to waive a fine for an encroachment violation on the national grid.

Additionally, the Commission carried out an ambush that led to the arrest of an individual who defrauded a female citizen. He falsely claimed he could process a security clearance document for her deceased brother at the Martyrs Foundation and complete her paperwork at the National Pension Commission for a fee. The illicit funds were recovered from him. The Second Karkh Investigation Court and the Rusafa Court, which handle cases of integrity, money laundering, and economic crimes, have issued detention orders for the accused under Resolution 160 of 1983.
