Integrity Commission Freezes Significant Overseas Funds Amid Anti-Corruption Efforts

Baghdad: The Integrity Commission announced on Sunday that the draft fund recovery law will soon be presented to Parliament, adding that it has succeeded in freezing large sums of money overseas.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Abbas Mutaab, Director General of the Recovery Department at the Integrity Commission and Deputy Chairman of the Iraqi Funds Recovery Fund, emphasized the Commission's leadership in digital transformation efforts. He highlighted that the Commission has effectively frozen significant amounts of money abroad, obstructing corruption offenders from accessing or disposing of these funds.

He further elaborated that the Integrity Commission is working in coordination with the Ministry of Justice to pursue civil cases aimed at recovering the seized funds, which constitute large sums. This collaborative effort is a testament to the ongoing battle against corruption and the recovery of national assets.

Mutaab also explained that the Recovery Department, under the leadership of Integrity Commission Chairman Mohammed al-Lami and the Commission's personnel, has made substantial progress in freezing and recovering funds. He noted, however, the absence of a comprehensive legal framework governing the recovery process.

In a significant development, Mutaab revealed that a draft asset recovery law would soon be presented to Parliament. He also noted that the Recovery Department has achieved major successes this year and is poised to announce further accomplishments in the coming days.
