Baghdad: Iraq is firmly asserting its sovereignty by rejecting any form of international or regional interference in its internal affairs, as stated by Secretary-General of the Generations Gathering, MP Muhammad Saadoun Al-Sayhoud. Al-Sayhoud emphasized that Iraq is solely responsible for crafting its own economic policies and foreign relations.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sayhoud elaborated in a press statement that Iraq’s international, regional, and Arab relations are founded on mutual interests. He highlighted that Iraq, like other nations, maintains economic, political, security, social, and commercial ties with neighboring countries. The importation of Iranian gas and electricity by Iraq was described as a natural occurrence, not to be leveraged as a tool for punitive measures, contrary to intentions expressed by the American president. He further advocated for addressing issues through dialogue, understanding, and diplomacy, urging the exclusion of Iraq from external conflicts and policies driven by confrontation. Al-Sayhoud criticized the approach of ‘Trumpian’ bravado, labeling it as ineffective and detrimental, as it aims to weaken populations, violate rights, restrict freedoms, and exploit national resources. He firmly opposed any threats against Iraq and its people, along with any attempts to undermine their well-being, as
purportedly sought by the new American administration.
