Baghdad: Iraq has reaffirmed its firm stance against the use of its territory or airspace as a launchpad for military operations targeting any country.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the official spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Sabah al-Nu'man, stated in a press release that, in light of the rapidly evolving regional developments and the accompanying escalation and threats affecting the security and stability of the region, the Republic of Iraq reaffirms its firm and principled stance against the use of its territory, airspace, or territorial waters as a launchpad for any military operations targeting any country whatsoever.
He added that this position is based on the provisions of the Iraqi Constitution and the government's policy of respecting the sovereignty of states and non-interference in their internal affairs. Iraq is fully committed to not allowing its territory to be used as a platform to threaten the security and stability of all neighboring countries in the region, or to be drawn into conflicts that do not serve the interests of its people.
He explained that the Iraqi government reiterates its call to all parties concerned to exercise restraint, prioritize dialogue, avoid escalation, and work diligently to resolve disputes through peaceful and diplomatic means, in accordance with the principles of international law and the UN Charter, thus sparing the region further tension and instability.
