Baghdad: The Ministry of Transport announced today that it had recorded 62 earthquakes inside Iraqi territory during the past month of January.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry of Transport revealed that the Iraqi seismic monitoring network registered a total of 92 earthquakes in January. Among these, 62 earthquakes occurred within Iraq, with an additional 22 earthquakes detected inside Iran near the Iraqi border, and 8 in Turkey.

The statement highlighted that Diyala Governorate, specifically the Khanaqin District, was the most seismically active area during this period, experiencing 43 earthquakes. Nineveh Governorate followed with 5 recorded earthquakes, while Erbil and Sulaymaniyah Governorates reported 5 and 4 earthquakes, respectively.

Maysan Governorate (Amara) and Kirkuk Governorate (Hawija) each recorded two tremors. Dohuk Governorate experienced only one tremor during the month, as noted in the ministry’s statement.
