Iraqi and Libyan Interior Ministers Focus on Combating Organized Crime and Human Trafficking

Brussels: The Interior Minister of Iraq, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, and his Libyan counterpart, Imad Al-Trabelsi, emphasized the critical need to intensify joint efforts in the fight against organized crime, migrant smuggling, and human trafficking. They also highlighted the importance of enhancing the exchange of information and expertise between their nations.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting between Al-Shammari and Al-Trabelsi took place on the sidelines of the Second International Conference of the Global Alliance to Counter Migrant Smuggling in Brussels. The discussions centered on strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing security cooperation between Iraq and Libya.

The Media Office of the Iraqi Minister of Interior reported that both ministers stressed the necessity to unify efforts against criminal networks that exploit economic conditions in the region. These networks pose significant cross-border security threats. The meeting underscored the importance of developing mechanisms for information sharing and exchanging expertise.

Further discussions focused on the need to strengthen communication channels between the interior ministries of both countries. The ministers explored ways to leverage shared experiences, especially in border security and addressing security challenges through modern approaches. They also talked about enhancing coordination in international forums relevant to these issues.

The Libyan delegation praised Iraq's active role in combating cross-border organized crime and recognized the efforts of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior in dismantling human smuggling networks. Such efforts are seen as crucial in contributing to regional security and stability.

The statement concluded by noting that this meeting was part of a series of bilateral engagements undertaken by the Iraqi Minister of Interior and his delegation with various ministers and officials attending the international conference.
