Iraqi Ports Engage in International Talks on Maritime Navigation in France


Baghdad: The General Company for Iraqi Ports participated in the meeting of the Maritime Aids Management and Requirements Committee (ARM21) of the International Association of Lighthouse Authorities (IALA), which was held at the organization’s headquarters in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France, with the participation of delegations from countries and international maritime institutions.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Director General of the company, Farhan Al-Fartousi, stated that the involvement of Iraqi ports in this meeting is aimed at strengthening international cooperation in maritime safety and the development of maritime navigation aids in Iraqi territorial waters, especially in the Grand Faw Port project.



He further explained that the Iraqi delegation, led by the company’s representative in the organization, Captain Zain Al-Abidin Al-Mousawi, showcased the ongoing work at the Grand Faw Port. The presentation particularly focused on maritime safety programs and the integration of modern navigation aids, aligning with international IALA standards.



The representative of the General Company for Ports noted that the meeting included discussions on the latest requirements and standards for navigation aids and explored methods to support member states in enhancing their maritime systems to ensure navigation safety and security.



Additionally, the Iraqi delegation engaged in a series of side meetings with international institutions and organizations focused on maritime safety and environmental protection. These discussions included a meeting with the Deputy Secretary-General of the International Organization and representatives from the British Admiralty Hydrographic Office. They provided a comprehensive overview of the Grand Faw Port project, highlighting its significant impact on the Iraqi maritime transport sector.
