Baghdad: A joint workshop dedicated to enhancing psychosocial support for children was recently held in Baghdad, marking a collaborative effort between the Child Welfare Authority and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The event took place from August 29 to September 3, 2026, drawing attention to the critical importance of mental health and psychosocial support for young individuals.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the workshop saw the participation of several social workers and representatives from various organizations, including the Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Special Needs and the Social Protection Authority. The five-day workshop covered a wide range of crucial topics aimed at strengthening the psychosocial support framework for children.
Participants engaged in discussions on establishing foundational concepts of mental health and psychosocial support, enhancing psychological resilience, and training on safe monitoring and referral mechanisms. Additionally, the workshop provided training on psychological first aid and methods of support during emergency situations. Practical application sessions included guidance on managing and designing counseling sessions for affected children and groups requiring specialized care.
