Baghdad: The Supreme Judicial Council announced on Tuesday statistics on human trafficking, residency violations, and suicides during July. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Council revealed that the Courts of Appeal recorded significant activity in these areas.
The statement highlighted that 167 cases related to human trafficking crimes were documented, with the Basra Court of Appeal registering the highest number at 73 cases. This was followed by the Baghdad/Karkh Court of Appeal with 21 cases and the Baghdad/Rusafa Court of Appeal with 19 cases. Other courts, including those in Nineveh, Najaf, Dhi Qar, Muthanna, and Karbala, did not report any such cases.
In terms of residency violations, 384 cases were registered under the Foreigners’ Residence Law No. (76) of 2017. The Baghdad/Rusafa Court of Appeals topped the list with 233 cases, followed by the Baghdad/Karkh Court of Appeals with 88 cases, and the Wasit Court of Appeals with 28 cases. Notably, the Courts of Appeals in Basra, Nineveh, Babylon, Dhi Qar, Anbar, Maysan, Muthanna, and Karbala reported no cases.
Regarding suicides, statistics showed that 16 cases were recorded. The Nineveh Court of Appeals reported the highest number with five cases, followed by the Kirkuk Court of Appeals with three cases. The Baghdad/Rusafa, Diyala, and Qadisiyah Courts of Appeals each reported two cases, while one case was documented in both the Karkh and Wasit courts.
