Karbala: The governor of Karbala, Engineer Nassif Jassim Al-Khattabi, announced that the province is on the brink of achieving food security. During a field visit to the major agricultural city project in the governorate, part of the Karbala Deserts and Badia Project, Al-Khattabi reviewed the progress of strategic agricultural projects aimed at enhancing food security and developing the agricultural and livestock production sectors.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the governor was accompanied by the Director of Agriculture in Karbala, where they inspected the implementation phases of the project that includes planting 20 million olive trees. This initiative marks a significant advancement for the agricultural sector and includes projects focused on the production of table eggs and various types of poultry meat. These efforts are part of an integrated production system designed to support the local market and enhance self-sufficiency.

The governor emphasized that this project is the largest of its kind in Iraq and the region, integrating agricultural and livestock production with food industries. He highlighted that the governorate is strategically transforming these projects into a crucial economic base that supports food security, provides tens of thousands of job opportunities, and propels sustainable development.

Furthermore, Al-Khattabi noted that Karbala will be among the pioneering governorates in Iraq to engage actively in olive production and the processing of its food derivatives. This initiative is expected to open new horizons for processing industries related to the agricultural sector.

The governor affirmed that the strategic food reserves in Karbala are available and increasing year after year. He reiterated the local government’s commitment to supporting major agricultural projects that bolster local production and achieve food security for the residents of the governorate.
