Minister of Education Emphasizes Skill Development for Early Primary Grades

Nineveh:Minister of Education Abdul-Karim Abtan Al-Jubouri has directed the development of reading and numeracy skills for pupils in the first three primary grades through a workshop organized by the Nineveh Education Directorate, in cooperation with UNICEF and funded by the European Union.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the workshop is part of a series of training sessions implemented by the General Directorate of Curricula in coordination with UNICEF. These sessions follow a ministerial order that established two committees focused on Arabic language and mathematics. The committees are responsible for preparing training manuals, implementing them, and monitoring their results.

UNICEF expert Gavin Glassy participated in the workshop, which evaluated the current state of the program’s implementation. The discussion highlighted strengths and challenges in delivering reading and numeracy skills and offered practical solutions to further enhance the project.

The workshop was overseen by Riyadh Al-Omari, the Director General of Curricula and Head of the Technical Committee. It marked the conclusion of Glassy’s field tour of Anbar, Salah al-Din, and Nineveh.
