Baghdad: The head of the Social Protection Authority at the Ministry of Labor, Ahmed Al-Moussawi, engaged in discussions with Fadia Saada, the Regional Director of the World Bank for Human Development in the Middle East and North Africa. The focus of their meeting was to explore avenues for enhancing joint cooperation in social protection.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the discussions revolved around a project aimed at creating job opportunities in Dhi Qar Governorate. This initiative involves granting loans to establish income-generating projects, which is expected to support beneficiary families and contribute to economic stability in the region.

The statement from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs highlighted that both parties reviewed ongoing efforts to update social targeting tools. This initiative, in collaboration with the World Bank and the Ministry of Planning, is based on the findings of an economic and social survey. It aims to enhance social safety nets through data automation and the establishment of a social registry. This registry will link various services provided to beneficiaries, aiming to improve support delivery efficiency and ensure the most needy groups benefit.

Ahmed Al-Moussawi emphasized that the ministry is expanding its reach by opening new subcommittees for social protection departments in Baghdad and other governorates. He noted that investing in human capital remains a priority, focusing on improving access to health and education services, alongside developing training and employment programs. These efforts are directed at supporting the labor market and reducing poverty and unemployment rates.
