Diyala: The National Security Service announced the dismantling of an extortion network involving women in Diyala. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Service reported that following a complaint from a citizen about the network, its detachments in Diyala Governorate were able to dismantle an organized electronic extortion network operating in Baladruz District.
The statement added that the network lured victims and then extorted money from them after filming them, threatening to publish the footage on social media if they refused. The statement explained that after obtaining judicial approval, the Service's detachments set up an ambush that resulted in the arrest of the first suspect in the act of receiving four million Iraqi dinars from the victim. Based on his information, the second suspect was identified and arrested at her location.
The statement continued that two mobile phones used in the extortion operations were seized from the suspects, as well as a vehicle used in carrying out the crime. The suspects, along with all seized items, were handed over to the relevant authorities to take the necessary legal measures.
