Pakistani Army Comments on Iran’s Potential Inclusion in Makkah Defense Agreement

Islamabad:Pakistani Army Spokesperson, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has expressed a cautiously optimistic outlook on the mediation efforts between the United States and Iran. These efforts, he noted, are reflected in the two visits to Tehran made this October by Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Chaudhry indicated that these visits are part of broader diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions between Washington and Tehran. He did not provide specific details about the discussions involving General Munir during his recent trip to Iran, which included the presence of Saudi and Turkish officials.

Chaudhry addressed the prospect of Iran joining the Makkah Defense Agreement. He explained, as reported by the Russia Today (RT) channel, that the agreement does not exclude the inclusion of other nations that align with its goals of collective deterrence and promoting regional peace and stability. He further stated that the ultimate decision regarding Iran’s participation would be made by the political leaderships of the involved countries.

Additionally, Chaudhry reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to the defense of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Two Holy Mosques. He mentioned that the decision to deploy additional forces to Saudi Arabia would be contingent on the evolving situation and the decisions of the political leaderships of both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
