Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has pledged that the government will continue its efforts to reinforce the authority of the state by maintaining security and ensuring that weapons remain exclusively under state control.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a message on the X platform commemorating the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Iraqi Army, Al-Sudani expressed respect and gratitude for the armed forces. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by the martyrs and wounded heroes who have defended Iraq, its sovereignty, and its territory.
The Prime Minister highlighted that over the past three years, the government has been dedicated to boosting the capabilities of the armed forces by equipping them with advanced and modern weapons and equipment. He stated that the government has honored its promise to restore Iraq's full sovereignty and to conclude the mission of the International Coalition, noting that the current stability in the country has paved the way for winding down the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).
Al-Sudani reiterated that the government remains committed to its program of strengthening state authority, maintaining security, and ensuring that weapons are restricted to state institutions, in accordance with the guidance of the Supreme Religious Authority.
