Prime Minister Al-Zaydi Emphasizes Role of Christians in Iraq’s Future

Baghdad: Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi affirmed that Christians are an active component and an essential partner in building the state and shaping Iraq's history and future. A statement from his media office highlighted a meeting held on Saturday between Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi and the Patriarch of the Chaldean Church in Iraq and the world, His Beatitude Patriarch Mar Paul III Nona, along with a delegation including Archbishop of the Chaldean Archdiocese of Erbil, Bishop Bashar Matti Warda, and several other Christian clergy.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized Iraq's strength in its national, religious, and cultural diversity, underscoring the unity, integration, and social cohesion of its people. He highlighted the return of Christians, who were forced to leave the country due to past difficult circumstances, as a national and governmental priority. The government is committed to consolidating stability and ensuring lasting security and civil peace.

Al-Zaydi expressed the government's readiness to support the return of Christian families, promising their inclusion in the million-plot residential land project. He reiterated that Iraq is a homeland for all Iraqis and that its diversity is a source of strength for society and the state. The Prime Minister also called on Iraqi Christian businesspeople and investors abroad to return and contribute to the reconstruction process, particularly in the health and education sectors, assuring them of government support to ensure the success of their projects.

His Beatitude Patriarch Mar Paul III Nona expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for his attention and support to the Iraqi Christian community. He noted that these measures send an important message encouraging the Christian diaspora to return and strengthen their confidence in their future in Iraq. He affirmed the readiness of Christian businesspeople to actively contribute to investment projects and participate in the reconstruction and development process for the benefit of Iraq and all its people.
