Maysan: The National Security Service announced the dismantling of a cyber extortion gang and the seizure of hundreds of counterfeit payment cards in Maysan. In a statement, the Service said, “Following field surveillance and technical efforts, National Security Service detachments were able to dismantle a gang specializing in cyber extortion and financial fraud during two high-quality security operations.”
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the operations resulted in the arrest of three suspects who were using sophisticated extortion methods against citizens by fabricating indecent content and claiming to possess fabricated evidence, then demanding money from the victims in exchange for not publishing it.
The operation was carried out based on an official complaint from a citizen, resulting in the arrest of two members of the gang in the act. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of the third suspect, who was found in possession of 331 Mastercard cards used in electronic fraud operations.
The suspects, along with the seized items, were referred to the competent authorities to take the necessary legal action against them.
