The Presidency of Iraq Celebrates International Human Rights Day with Pride

Baghdad: The Presidency of the Republic commemorated with pride International Human Rights Day, which falls on December 10th. This day marks the anniversary of the establishment of the principle of defending human dignity and fundamental freedoms without discrimination.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Presidency stated that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations in 1948, represents a pivotal historical stage in humanity's journey towards establishing the values of freedom, justice, and equality. Iraq is proud to be among the countries that joined the international community in supporting this declaration, affirming its commitment to the principles and rights contained therein.

The statement highlighted that the Constitution of the Republic of Iraq enshrines this commitment by dedicating a specific chapter to rights and freedoms, detailing the organization and protection of Iraqi human rights and guaranteeing public freedoms. It emphasizes strengthening and upholding the rule of law, respecting pluralism, and safeguarding the rights of women and children as fundamental pillars for building a just and stable society.

The Presidency affirmed that protecting human rights is not merely a legal obligation, but a shared national and moral responsibility incumbent upon state institutions and society as a whole, to ensure a more secure and prosperous future for all citizens.

Furthermore, it reiterated Iraq's full commitment to supporting national and international efforts aimed at promoting human rights, equal opportunities, and establishing a culture of citizenship.
