The United Nations Security Council is due to vote at 7 pm (GMT) on Monday for a temporary cease-fire in the Damascus Eastern Ghouta .

“The council will hold a vote on the draft resolution for a 30-day ceasefire in Damascus Eastern Ghouta, , at 11 am EDT (0400 GMT) on Saturday,” said the Kuwaiti Mission to the United Nations, which heads the Security Council for the month for medical aid and evacuation. “

Kuwait and Sweden drafted the resolution in the hope that it would pass without Russian opposition.

The resolution requires nine countries to agree on the condition that the five permanent members – the United States, Russia, Britain, France and China – should not use veto power.
