Toy Story 5 Approaches Box Office Record with Impressive Opening Day

Los angeles: Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 5 came remarkably close to toppling the Incredibles 2 box office record for the best first day for an animated movie, earning $71 million yesterday, including previews. This impressive figure was bolstered by strong walk-up business, with 48% of tickets purchased on the day, as Incredibles 2 grossed slightly higher at $71.2 million, including previews.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Toy Story 5’s opening day figures represent the best performance at the box office since Disney/Marvel’s 2024 releases of Deadpool and Wolverine, which collectively grossed $96 million. The 3-day forecast for Toy Story 5 in the United States is projected to be between $160 million to $170 million. This would set a new record for the Toy Story franchise and mark the best domestic opening of 2026 to date, ranking as the second-best 3-day opening ever for an animated film, just behind Incredibles 2’s $182.6 million.

While Toy Story 3 left audiences in tears, Toy Story 5 brings a more joyous narrative, particularly in Jessie’s storyline. The film has achieved its fourth ‘A’ rating for the franchise, with Toy Story 2 previously attaining an A+. It also boasts a 75% definite recommend rating, with parents giving it an 89% definite recommend, predicting a successful weekend ahead.

Another factor influencing the film’s performance is the upcoming Father’s Day. Historically, Toy Story 3 experienced a -13% hold on Father’s Day in 2010, while Inside Out 2 saw a -23% dip from Saturday to Sunday in 2024. Interestingly, Toy Story 4 was not released over a Father’s Day weekend back in 2019, making this year’s timing potentially impactful for Toy Story 5’s box office results.
