Istanbul: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated on Saturday that Palestine will always remain Turkey's compass and the central cause of the Islamic world, emphasizing the necessity for bold and responsible actions to halt Israeli aggression and address expansionist policies threatening regional stability.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Fidan made these remarks at the 9th International Youth East Conference in Istanbul. He highlighted that the conference is not solely a platform for sharing experiences but also a crucial space for strengthening brotherhood, friendship, and building future partnerships. Fidan remarked on the significant shifts in global power dynamics and the interconnected crises that accompany them, stressing that conflicts persist in various regions.
Fidan underscored the urgent need for a shared vision and collective action within the Islamic world, alongside enhanced regional and economic cooperation. He emphasized that unity is crucial for any meaningful transformation. On the Palestinian issue, he reiterated that 'Palestine is always our compass and the primary cause of the Islamic world,' advocating for a long-term strategy based on courage and political and moral responsibility.
He added that Turkey, led by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is committed to ensuring sustainable cooperation within the Islamic world. Fidan noted that the core issue is not the lack of international events but rather the absence of courage and accountability. He also mentioned that ongoing Israeli attacks on Palestine and Syria contribute to regional destabilization, urging the international community to act with a unified stance.
Fidan referred to a special meeting on Gaza held alongside the United Nations General Assembly last September, where Turkey moved beyond rhetoric to push for a peace plan acceptable to all parties. He highlighted Turkey's involvement in the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit last October and clarified that a ceasefire does not equate to peace; true peace requires justice and the establishment of a sovereign, free, and viable Palestinian state.
Addressing developments in Syria, Fidan affirmed Turkey's support for the Syrian people's aspirations for freedom. He noted that on January 8 of last year, Syrians entered a new chapter by toppling the Assad family regime, which had ruled for 61 years. Fidan added that Turkey has worked with the U.S. administration, the interim Syrian administration, and international partners to help build a unified and stable Syrian state, free from terrorism and occupation.
