Baghdad: The Turkish Ministry of Defense affirmed that Israel continues its systematic attacks and expansionist approach, stating that its actions fuel instability in the region and threaten security-not only there but across the globe.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, In its weekly media briefing, the Turkish Ministry of Defense stated that Israel continues indiscriminate attacks on the Gaza Strip and encourages “terrorism by illegal settlers” in the occupied West Bank. It also noted Israel’s ongoing destruction in southern Lebanon-in violation of UN Security Council resolutions-and its attacks on civilians in southern Syria.

The Ministry added, “These Israeli practices, which daily undermine public confidence in international law, pose a threat not only to the region but to the entire world,” emphasizing the need for Israel to immediately halt actions that violate international law.

Regarding the “Mecca Joint Defense Agreement” between Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, the Ministry explained that the agreement provides a framework for developing defense and security cooperation among member states and for strengthening joint defense and deterrence capabilities.

It noted that activities under the agreement would be carried out in accordance with the joint decisions of the member states and relevant national procedures. Regarding Greece’s militarization of islands with demilitarized status in the Aegean Sea, the Ministry stated that the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne and the 1947 Paris Peace Treaty clearly established the demilitarized status of the Eastern Aegean islands.

It emphasized that “militarization activities violating this status, and statements aimed at legitimizing them, cannot alter the existing legal situation,” expressing its expectation that Greece refrain from activities that could harm peace and stability in the region and abide by its treaty obligations.

It affirmed that Turkey would continue its constructive approach-supporting good-neighborly relations and dialogue in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean-while resolutely protecting its rights and interests under international law and taking necessary measures for the country’s security.
