Baghdad: United Nations Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres condemned the killing of six Palestinian journalists in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza City on Sunday, calling for an independent and impartial investigation into the incident.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the condemnation came from UN Spokesperson St©phane Dujarric, who began his daily press conference by stressing that journalists working for Al Jazeera in Gaza were once again victims of this conflict. Dujarric noted that these recent incidents underscore the grave risks journalists continue to face while covering the conflict, adding that the Secretary-General stresses the need to respect and protect journalists and media workers, and to enable them to carry out their work freely and without fear or harassment.
For its part, the European Union condemned the killing of journalists in the Israeli airstrike on the Gaza Strip. The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas, stated, "The European Union condemns the killing of two Al Jazeera journalists in an Israeli airstrike outside Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City."
China also expressed its condemnation of the killing of Palestinian journalists, its opposition to all acts that harm civilians, and its strong condemnation of the violent attacks targeting journalists. It called on Israel to immediately halt its military operations in Gaza, fully resume the delivery of humanitarian aid, avoid a worsening of the humanitarian crisis, and work to calm the situation as soon as possible.
