Tehran: US attacks have changed the security conditions for navigation in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. During a meeting of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council, Iran condemned the US attacks targeting its maritime infrastructure, warning of their repercussions on maritime security in the region.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Iranian delegation participating in the 137th session of the IMO Council stated in an official statement: “The US military attacks that occurred two nights ago targeted ports, coastal areas, and maritime facilities, including the maritime control tower in Chabahar, as well as civilian fishing vessels and equipment related to the safety and security of navigation.”
The statement emphasized that “these attacks, according to the Iranian perspective, constitute an illegal use of force against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” noting that they directly threaten the lives of civilians and mariners, the safety of commercial navigation, and the marine environment.
Tehran asserted that the aggression against the Islamic Republic has fundamentally altered the security and operational conditions for navigation in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Sea of ??Oman.
The statement added: “Iran, as a coastal state, has taken the necessary measures to enhance maritime surveillance and vigilance, with the aim of maintaining navigational security, protecting its fundamental security interests, and ensuring the safety of seafarers’ lives.”
